Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a tragic incident that bears a striking resemblance to the Robinson Street case, a mentally ill mother in Kolkata, sat near her daughter's dead body for two days without realizing that she had passed away.
The daughter, identified as Sanchita Bose, was 38 years old at the time of her death, which occurred two days prior to the discovery of the body. The mother, also suffering from mental illness, was unaware of her daughter's demise and remained in close proximity to the corpse until the smell alerted neighbors, who contacted the police.
The mother and daughter, who lived in the Vijaygarh area of Kolkata's Jadavpur police station vicinity, were reportedly struggling financially and lived in isolation.
According to locals, they had not been seen outside their home in the two days leading up to the discovery of the body. A relative had been sending them food twice a day through an app-based delivery service, which they relied on for sustenance. When the delivery person arrived on Monday and noticed a foul smell emanating from the house, they alerted the authorities.
When police arrived at the scene and attempted to enter the house, they found that the door was locked. They were forced to break in, and upon entering, discovered the mother sitting near her daughter's lifeless body. The mother has since been admitted to a mental health facility, and the police have launched an investigation into the incident.
